U.S. launches new project to develop electric-automobile batteries

The Obama administration launched a fresh $ 120-million investigation project Friday, aimed at producing more affordable batteries for electric cars.
The Energy Department will dole out the funds over 5 years to establish a research hub for batteries and power storage, backed by five national laboratories, 5 Midwestern universities and four private companies.
The 4 organizations joining the project are Dow Chemical Co, Applied Materials Inc, Johnson Controls Inc and Clean Power Trust.
